Uganda’s Intimate Savannah

Lake Mburo is Uganda’s best-kept secret.

It is not vast like Murchison. It is not famous like Queen Elizabeth. It receives a fraction of the visitors.

But for the traveller who seeks intimacy—who wishes to walk the savannah at eye level, to track game on foot, to experience Africa without crowds—Lake Mburo is essential.

This is the only place in southern Uganda where you will see:

  • Zebra — Burchell’s, striped in their thousands
  • Impala — elegant acrobats, marked with the black “M”
  • Eland — Africa’s largest antelope
  • Leopard — elusive but present

And you can walk among them.

WHY WALKING SAFARIS MATTER

Lake Mburo is Uganda’s premier destination for walking safaris.

This is not merely a game drive on foot. It is a fundamentally different experience.

  • You notice tracks — hyena, leopard, bushbuck
  • You examine dung — diet, age, passage
  • You smell the bush — acacia, damp earth, distant water
  • You feel vulnerable — and therefore present

Your ranger’s rifle is a comfort, not a hunting tool.

The Salt Lick:

Your destination: a natural mineral deposit where animals congregate. At dawn, you may encounter hyenas returning to dens, hippos retreating to the lake, and the accumulated tracks of the night’s passage.

This is Africa at eye level.
