Kibale is not Uganda’s largest park. It is not its most famous. But for the traveller who seeks primates, Kibale is unrivalled anywhere on earth.
This is the Primate Capital of Africa—home to 13 primate species, including over 5,000 wild chimpanzees, the highest concentration on the continent.
Its forest is not impenetrable like Bwindi. It is accessible, welcoming, crisscrossed by well-maintained trails. The chimpanzees here are habituated, reliable, extraordinary.
To walk through Kibale is to walk through a documentary.

What to Expect:
Kibale’s terrain is gentle—well-maintained trails, gradual inclines, dense but navigable forest. You will walk beneath canopy, surrounded by birdsong and the distant pant-hoots of chimpanzees.
When you find them, the experience is profoundly different from gorillas. Chimpanzees are not still. They are kinetic, social, dramatic. Juveniles wrestle in strangler figs. Adults groom with methodical intimacy. A dominant male may display, hair erect, charging through undergrowth.
These are our closest cousins. You will recognise yourself in their eyes.
