3-Day Kidepo Valley Wilderness Safari

3-Day Kidepo Valley Wilderness Safari

Overview

Escape the crowds and discover Uganda’s wildest wilderness. This 3-day expedition takes you to Kidepo Valley National Park—arguably Africa’s finest yet most remote safari destination. Tucked away in the northeastern corner of Uganda, bordering South Sudan and Kenya, Kidepo offers an authentic, off-the-beaten-path wildlife experience. With 77 mammal species, including cheetahs, aardwolves, bat-eared foxes, and caracals found nowhere else in Uganda, this is the ultimate safari for seasoned travelers seeking the extraordinary. Despite the long journey, those who make the pilgrimage are rewarded with dramatic landscapes, near-private game viewing, and encounters with Africa’s rarest predators.

Highlights

  • Exclusive Wildlife Sightings: See Uganda’s only cheetah population, plus aardwolf, caracal, mountain reedbuck, and Guenther’s dik-dik species found in no other Ugandan park.

  • Big Cats in the Wild: Excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, and cheetahs against a backdrop of rugged mountain scenery.

  • Narus Valley Magic: Game drives in the park’s prime wildlife corridor, teeming with buffalo, elephant, zebra, giraffe, and predators.

  • Dramatic Landscapes: Towering mountains, vast savannah plains, and the iconic Kanangorok Hot Springs.

  • Birding Paradise: 475 bird species, including the ostrich, Karamoja apalis, and pygmy falcon—a haven for avid birders.

Itinerary

Day 1: The Great North – Journey to Uganda's Frontier

An early 6:00 AM departure from Entebbe/Kampala. Your expert driver-guide navigates the scenic route east and north, passing through the captivating Karamoja region—home to Uganda’s vibrant pastoralist communities. This full-day road journey (10-12 hours) is an adventure in itself, with landscapes transitioning from lush central hills to semi-arid savannah. Arrive at your camp as the sun sets over the distant mountains.

  • Meals: lunch, Dinner Included

  • Accommodation: Nga’Moru Wilderness Camp (Mid-range tented camp)

Morning Game Drive: Enter the park at dawn. Your first game drive traverses the Kidepo Valley with its iconic palm-dotted plains. Search for the park’s unique residents: cheetahs stalking prey, bat-eared foxes at their dens, and ostriches striding across the savannah. Encounters with elephant, buffalo, zebra, and giraffe are common.

Kanangorok Hot Springs: Visit this sacred site near the South Sudan border—a permanent water source that sustains wildlife during the dry months.

Afternoon Rest: Return to camp for lunch and relaxation during the midday heat.

Evening Game Drive: Head into the Narus Valley, Kidepo’s premier wildlife viewing area. The golden light of late afternoon is perfect for photography, and predator sightings (lion, leopard, hyena) peak during these hours.
